A good AI conversation doesn’t have to live and die in that one chat window. Every tool below now has some way to get what’s inside it out, handed to someone else or kept for yourself, so you’re not re-explaining the whole thing later. One thing to know before you send anything: most of these links can’t be limited to one recipient, so keep money, health, or anything private out of what you share.

Claude: export Your Claude Data

Claude: Export Your Claude Data

Download every chat you’ve had with Claude, sent to your email as a backup you keep, not a link you send.

  1. On claude.ai or the Claude desktop app, click your initials in the lower left corner, then select Settings.
  2. Go to the Privacy section and click Export data.
  3. Check the email tied to your Claude account for a download link.
  4. Download it within 24 hours. The link expires, but you can just repeat the steps to get a new one.

When to reach for it: good for backing up months of conversations before you close or downgrade an account, or just want a record of decisions you talked through. It only works on the web and desktop app, not the phone app, and it gives you a copy, not a way to move chats into a different Claude account.

ChatGPT: Shared Links

Turn a conversation into a link anyone can open, no ChatGPT account required on their end.

  1. Open the conversation you want to hand off, then select Share.
  2. Review what’s included, then select Create link.
  3. Copy the link and send it to whoever you want to see it.
  4. To take it down later, go to Settings, then Data controls, then Shared links, and delete it.

When to reach for it: works on every plan, including Free, and the person you send it to doesn’t need an account to read it. There’s no expiration date and no way to limit who sees it once the link is out, so don’t share anything you wouldn’t want circulating.

Copilot: share Conversations And Responses

Copilot: Share Conversations And Responses

Send someone your whole back and forth with Copilot, or just the one answer that mattered.

  1. Open the conversation, or find the single response, you want to share.
  2. For the whole conversation, select Share, then Share chat. For one answer, select More options (the three dots), then Share response.
  3. Select Copy link and send it to the person you want to see it.
  4. Manage or stop sharing later from Settings, then Data controls, then Shared links.

When to reach for it: good for handing off a plan or a draft without retyping it, on the free consumer Copilot app or a work account alike. Whoever opens the link has to sign in with a Microsoft account first, and on a work or school account, your organization can turn sharing off entirely.

Gemini: share Your Chats

Gemini: Share Your Chats

Turn a Gemini conversation into a link you can send or post, not just describe secondhand.

  1. In the conversation, find the response you want to share from.
  2. Below it, tap Share, then Share conversation.
  3. Copy the link, or share it straight to a social app.
  4. Send the link to whoever you want to read it.

When to reach for it: fine for something you don’t mind circulating further, since anyone with the link can open it and reshare it, no way to limit it to one person. If your Gemini account is through work or school, an admin may have turned this off.

Try this

Pick one chat from this week that you’d actually want someone else to see, a plan, a draft, a decision you talked through out loud with the tool. Share it (or, for Claude, export it) using the steps above, then check whether it still makes sense to the other person without you there to explain it. If it doesn’t, that tells you something useful about how you’re prompting, not just about the tool.
